Exploring the historical and cultural richness of the Middle East

Are you interested in the histories, languages, and cultures of the Middle East and Northern Africa? Stretching from Morocco to Iraq and from Syria down the Arabian Peninsula, the Middle East and North Africa comprises Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Oman, Palestine (including the West Bank and Gaza Strip), Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, the United Arab Emirates, and Yemen.

The Hamilton Lugar School's Department of Middle Eastern Languages & Cultures offers a major in these areas, which includes the study of Arabic and Ancient (Hieroglyphic) Egyptian, as well as minors in Arabic, Ancient Egyptian, Islamic Studies, and Middle Eastern Civilizations. We also offer MA and PhD degrees in Arabic and support additional languages such as Hebrew, Turkish, Persian, Kurdish, and Ancient Egyptian.
